bbSpell Support
Questions to our most frequently asked questions can be found below. If you can't find your solution here, please email support at support@somedevelopers.com. Frequent QuestionsWhat blackberry models are supported?bbSpell will run on virtually all Java blackberry devices - this includes any device produced in the last two years. What version of the Blackberry OS is required?bbSpell runs on versions 3.6, 3.7. 3.8, 4.0 and 4.1 or later of the Blackberry OS. Early versions of 3.6 and 3.7 require a patch released by RIM/Blackberry to correct several flaws in the OS. This patch is available at: 3.6 and 3.7 API PatchIs spell checking secure?Yes. bbSpell utilizes the inherent security of the Blackberry Enterprise Server's Mobile Data Service coupled with industry standard SSL encryption. Users who are not connected to a Blackberry Enterprise Server can utilize end to end SSL. Enterprise customers can easily deploy the bbSpell server on their own Windows 2000/2003 server. The spelling server is available as a very small and reliable .NET application which utilizes a very small amount of memory and CPU, requires no database, uses a real multi-threaded spell checking engine (not Microsoft Word!), and lives happily on the BES server. Can I use bbSpell without a Blackberry Enterprise Server?Yes, provided your carrier supports Blackberry Web Connect or Blackberry Internet Service (most now do). If your device is running version 3.8, 4.0 or later of the Blackberry OS, it can easily be configured to use your mobile provider's internet gateway. Carrier specific information can be found here .How much memory is needed?bbSpell requires only about 65k of RAM on your device .Where can I find upgrades for my Blackberry OS?Blackberry OS upgrades are available from your provider. A good list can be found here.Support and IssuesI lost (or upgraded) my Blackberry! How do I move my license to a new device?Your bbSpell license can be moved to a new device. We also suggest installing the latest version of bbSpell on your new device. You can have the link/software sent to you by filling out the form here. The web page where you can move your license is: www.somedevelopers.com/unlicense.htm Once you have submitted the request to move the license, you will then need to enter your registration key on the new device. When trying bbSpell, I receive the error: "java.io.IOException: could not open tunnel - failed." OR "Java.io.IOException: Could not find a service book entry for IPPP"If your Blackberry is NOT on a Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES):Users that are not on a BES must make sure their Blackberry is configured for generic access to the internet. Even though you might be able to surf the web from your Blackberry, it still must be configured to allow third party applications to access the Internet. In bbSpell, confirm that the "Use Blackberry Web Connect" option is checked. Then the device TCP options must be configured. Please see this link for instructions based on your carrier. If your Blackberry is on a Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES): You might need to contact your IT department and indicate that Mobile Data Services (MDS) must be enabled for both the Server AND your user account. The BES server itself must also be able to make outbound connections to the Internet. Users on a BES server will typically have two different browsers on their device. One browser is usually named by your carrier, and the second is called "Blackberry Browser". If you cannot surf the web with the "Blackberry Browser", your device is not configured for proper Internet access, and bbSpell won't work either. |
